OSHA SAFETY REGULATIONS COURSE

I designed this introductory course to provide procedures within the current curriculum for OSHA Safety Training.  This RISE course provides a flexible approach for users to access content whether during Instructor-Led Training and/or when working at construction sites.

Audience:  Supervisors and managers of construction workers

Responsibilities:  Analysis, Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Course Evaluation

Tools Used:  Articulate RISE, Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe Stock

Overview of Design Process

I incorporate the Agile Instructional Design Process when working on projects I design at Erwin Technical College.

  • Phase 1 starts with an initial meeting with stakeholders, instructors, and learners to brainstorm, collect information, and formulate a plan for moving forward.  Our goals is edit existing content into modules build in Ariculate 360 and Rise.  We undergo data analysis by conducting interviews with learners and reviewing assessment data from previous courses.  We also complete a thorough review of previously build content.  I collaborate with Subject-Matter Experts to update content based on current OSHA standards and laws.  This includes editing multimedia elements (photos, infographics, and videos).

  • Phase 2,  I develop a storyboard to provide stakeholders a visual representation of the course.  SME's provide feedback and modification are made to the storyboard.  Several iterations are made as content is added to the Rise Course.

  • Phase 3:  I develop modules in Rise over several weeks.  As each module is completed, I meet with stakeholder to address modifications or additions before moving forward. The emphasis is on learners and their interaction within the course.  We repeat this process for each section of the Rise course the course is completed.

  • Phase 4: We use assessment data to measure the effectiveness of the eLearning deliverables.  The team meets to gather feedback, make improvements, and refine the course as needed.

Visual Storyboard

I consult with a subject matter experts (SMEs) and five OSHA Trainers to determine the course objectives, visual design, and activities tailored to workers in the industrial trades.  We also complete the following tasks:

  • Define the eLearning goal

  • Complete a Storyboard with a scenario for decision-making

  • Design visuals for the project by completing one module for the course for review

  • Ensure the eLearning experience functioned as planned by completing one module in Articulate RISE

  • Share module with stakeholders for review, corrections, and feedback.

Additional Resources

I create infographics, a glossary of OSHA terms specific to the course content, and instructional videos.  Often, resources are added to courses I created in Microsoft Powerpoint and RISE 360.  Videos are an effective visual to scaffolding learning during in in-person trainings and for online courses.
